renters & homeowners

Your policy works differently — so does the guidance.

Set whether an inventory is a rental or an owned home, and the coverage comparison actually reflects which parts of your real policy apply.

If you rent

Renters policies typically cover only your belongings and liability — not the building itself, which is your landlord's separate policy. The coverage check compares your scanned total against your policy's personal property limit, not a dwelling figure that was never yours to worry about.

If you own

Homeowners policies typically bundle dwelling coverage (the structure) with personal property coverage (your belongings) in one policy. The comparison here deliberately isolates the personal property portion — comparing your scanned total against the whole policy limit would overstate how much belongings coverage you actually have.
